A Their Circumstances novella

After his father beats him, Chad escapes to the only safe haven he can think: his former teacher, Dion. But when he arrives at Dion’s door, it’s opened by a stranger—who promptly finds himself catching an unconscious man.

Unable to turn away the broken, battered Chad, Jeremy takes him in and tends his wounds, even if he would much rather have nothing to do with the student that his ex, Dion, cheated on him with …

Measured Doses: A Controversial Subject

measured-doses2I’ve always been very against cheating. There is no personal reason for this. I’ve never been cheated on. But if I see that a book has cheating in it, I stay clear. So why did I write about it in Measured Doses? I actually have no idea. It just happened.

The cheating doesn’t take place on-page. It happened before Measured Doses starts. Maybe that’s what made it easier for me, because all I had to do was clean up the aftermath.

The fact that Chad and Dion were originally supposed to be together could also have made it easier. Originally, Jeremy was dead. So when I brought him back, I wasn’t as attached to him as I was the other two. So yeah, this could be the reason why the cheating was easier to write.

But I grew very attached to Jeremy once I started in on his POV. He’s an amazing man. He’s angry, bitter, hurt because of what Dion did, as he’s entitled to being, but he’s also tender and worried about Chad and his health.

So yes, this book is about cheating. It’s about Jeremy overcoming his hurt and finding more than he ever imagined. It’s about Chad finding not just one man to love, but two. And it’s about Dion, who cares equally much for both men and feel guilty because he’s hurting both of them with the feelings he can’t help.

I should maybe not be so quick to shy away from this subject in the future. I wrote it! So I should be able to read about it too. Though it is easier to forgive my own characters, at times, than it is to forgive others’. /grins

Measured Doses: A Teaser

“Your student’s here. You know, the student.”

Dion froze for several seconds before slowly turning around to face Jeremy. He looked suspicious, like he didn’t believe what he was hearing. “What did you say?”

“Your student. The red-head you cheated on me with?” Jeremy couldn’t stop the trace of bitterness and hurt that bled into his voice. He’d been hurt and angry for three months. It wouldn’t simply disappear because he had taken care of the student in question. It was still Dion he was mad at. “He’s here. He’s sleeping in the guest room.”

Dion’s brows drew together in a frown. “Why? Why is he here? Why is he asleep in our guest room?”

“He was beaten halfway into next year.” Jeremy still couldn’t get the sight of Chad’s swollen face and his bruised and beaten body out of his mind. “From what I gathered, it’s a regular thing.”

Dion sighed and closed his eyes. He turned away slightly, but Jeremy could still see the worry painted clearly on his face. Dion still cared for Chad; he still worried about Chad. “It is. When he did show up at college he was usually bruised.”

“No one did anything?” Jeremy couldn’t believe no one had taken any action. A student had been abused, and not a single person had done anything to help him?

“He wouldn’t admit to anything.” Dion tangled his fingers in his hair and pulled slightly in frustration. “I tried to talk to him. The counsellor talked to him. He refused. Said he’d been in fights. We couldn’t do anything without him confessing. For all we did know he did get in fights. He was always a troublemaker.”

“How long was he your student?” Jeremy needed to know. He needed to know how long Dion had seen Chad show up bruised without doing anything about it.

“Only his last year. Well, the first term of it, anyway. He quit in January.”

Jeremy was weirdly relieved upon hearing that. One term wasn’t much to go by. At least Dion hadn’t been his teacher since he first started college. There were still other teachers who had seen Chad though and who had let his situation pass. Jeremy couldn’t fathom why anyone would overlook such a blatant display of abuse.

Dion looked pained as he turned back to fully face Jeremy. Pained and guilty all at the same time. “Why did he come here?”

“He had nowhere else to go.” Jeremy stared into Dion’s brown eyes. “You gave him your home address.”

Measured Doses: It’s all about ménage

measured-dosesMeasured Doses was my first-ever threesome. Before this book, I stuck to twosomes. The fun thing is, this book wasn’t originally thought out to be a threesome. In the original version of the epic 130K manuscript that brought these characters to life, Chad and Dion hooked up, while Jeremy was dead.

When I brought him back to life, (I love being an author, I can bring people back from the dead!), I was debating in which direction to go. Dion was supposed to get in an accident and get in a coma. Chad and Jeremy were supposed to bond, and they could’ve either gone off my themselves or fight over Dion.

Or … they could all three be together! Thus started the threesome. If you read this books, you will see that Dion does not get in an accident. Measured Doses is Chad’s book. It’s his journey, to how he gets away from his miserable life with his father and find love with not just one man, but two.

It’s also Jeremy’s book, a little. He struggles with the fact that Dion cheated on him with Chad, and his sudden tender feelings for Chad once he does meet him. (I feel the need to mention here that the cheating took place before the start of the book.)

Measured Doses is a book about Chad finding love and stability, and for Jeremy to regain the love he and Dion used to share, as well as gaining new love with Chad.
