Book 1 in the More Than Anything series

Arriving home after work one evening, Jørgen sees a young man who looks adrift and out of place—and who promptly has a seizure on the sidewalk. Jørgen takes care of him until the seizure passes and then, not knowing who to contact, takes care of him for the night. After giving the kid, Geir, a ride home the next morning, he expects that to be the end of it. He doesn’t expect Geir to be a student at the vocational school where Jørgen works as an electrician. He definitely does not expect to be drawn to Geir time and again, to want things that will never be possible for two people with more obstacles between them than can ever be overcome.

More Than Anything: It’s THE Book

MoreThanAnythingPrintIt’s only two days left until More Than Anything is released. I’m sitting her equal parts excited and biting my nails in anxiety. This is THE book. The longest book I’ve ever written; the longest in the making as Jørgen and Geir were the second gay couple to ever come to me, almost ten years ago now; the book I’m the most proud of out of every single other story I’ve ever written. If people doesn’t like this one, then I might just give up, because this is my masterpiece.

Okay, a bit of an overstatement there, but truly. These characters have been with me for so damn long! They were supposed to be dead and buried, and had been for a couple years, until they rose from their graves and dusted each other off last year. They came back with a vengeance.

So I wrote their story. I had planned it to come in around 50K, perhaps. I certainly couldn’t have more story than that. I’d never written anything longer before in my life. (Well, okay, I have, but in Norwegian, so not in my English writing career.) Then the first part, told from Jørgen’s POV ended up an astounding 10K. And then the second part, told from Geir’s POV, also ended up around 10K. And off they went, switching POV for every part. And it ended up at ten. TEN parts. 100K words!

I had plans for this and that to happen, and they thwarted me on some and others followed the outline smoothly. Smooth. That’s the word I’ll use for the writing of this novel. Everything flowed smoothly, I wrote like a fiend. Half of it in October, the rest in November. I did nothing but write last November, finishing this novel as well as writing the entire sequel to it (different characters, who happens to be the first ever gay couple that came to me).

What a ride it’s been. It was fun. It was finally done right. I’ve got more documents of older versions than I can count, and let me tell you… they’re not alike at all. With this novel, these characters, I feel like I’ve grown as a writer. This is the standard I will now compare newer works too. This is THE book. The one I’m proudest of. My baby. And I really hope people like it.

#BookBirthday: Forest of Fenris

forestoffenrisMy very first published book, my fantasy novella Forest of Fenris, is three years old today! It started with a prompt (“into the forest”), and continued as prompts for a couple of weeks, until I just kept on writing it until it decided to finish.

Never bet against a dark forest filled with monsters…

Desperate for the approval he hopes it will gain him, Mihai accepts a challenge from his brother: Venture into Fenris Forest, and retrieve a leaf from a rare tree to prove he did it. Though he has been warned to avoid the forest and the monsters that fill it all his life, Mihai’s longing for approval trumps his fear.

Mihai soon realizes, however, that it is his fear he should have heeded. Just as victory seems within his grasp, he is attacked by warg, the most dangerous beasts in the forest. Alone and helpless, Mihai resigns himself to being just one more person who went into the woods and never came out—

Until he is saved in the most unexpected of ways.

Basking in the long summer days, Axel hikes away from his worries through Norway’s idyllic mountain passes. He’s so at ease that he slips off his clothes and bathes in the cool lake water with no fear of being called out for his bright red hair or body full of freckles. Life is grand.

Peace and quiet doesn’t come easy for mystery writer Folke. When he stumbles across his copper-haired muse naked in a mountain oasis, plans for his future novel are long forgotten in favor of love. Nature takes a bite out of the serenity the two find, and the real world encroaches, making the happy couple wonder if they didn’t just suffer a summer fever.

Hitting roadblocks: a blessing in disguise?

never_quite_good_enough_by_Soda_DreamerFor those of you who’ve been following my blog, you might have seen that the Their Circumstances series has been ripped apart and reborn into the Scarred Souls series, where the stories are told in full (novel and novella length titles) instead of the short stories of the TC series. It has changed POVs, from 3rd to 1st, events have changed… all in all, most of the things established in TC has changed.

Still, the plan was for eight books, whereas book 5, Wounded Souls, was to be the rewrite/redoing of Josh and Damian’s part of Yesterday’s Tears. Well, that plan has crashed and burned, my dear readers. Why, you ask? I started the book over and over again, getting stuck a few thousand words in each time. It just wasn’t right. The series have changed so much, the events of YT couldn’t be incorporated into it. And this realisation crushed me, because I was all set on writing another novel with Josh and Damian, but it wouldn’t work.

Matt started talking then. His book was supposed to be book 6, Lost Souls. And it still is categorised as book 6, but with the crash and burn of book 5, maybe this one should be book 5 instead? This’ll leave the series with only seven books. I was attached to the number 8, but now I think about it… only having 7 books is of no matter. I kind of like the number 7. If this is to be the case, Josh and Damian will have a short story in Lost Souls, because there is one thing from YT that will have to be dealt with. And no, I’m not telling you what it is. You’ll have to wait and see.

So, with my newfound revelation, the 7 books of the new series are as follows: #1. Scarred Souls. Josh and Damian’s novel; #2. Inked Souls. Silver and Kian’s novella; #3. Broken Souls. Chad and Jeremy’s novel; #4. Imperfect Souls. Chad and Dion’s novella; #5. Lost Souls. Matt and Caesar’s novella (or novel? Still WIP, might change); #6. Troubled Souls. Adam. That’s all I have to say; #7. Damaged Souls. I have nothing to say to this one. Wait and see!

I’m so excited about this series. You have no idea. I think it’s my best work to date!
