On writing …

Writing hasn’t been going like it did last week, but then last week was mad. Last week I wrote 46K, and I have no idea what possessed me. This week I’ve written 29K, and I’m quite happy with that. I don’t think I’m going to reach 46K anytime soon again, so nearing thirty thousand is quite good. I’ve written exclusively on More Than Words this week and it’s on 44K now.

I had to skip some scenes that weren’t working, so I’m back to thinking this novel will be around 80K again (this means I’m over hallways, yeah!), and not a 100K like I believed at first when I did the outline. I’m happy about that. This novel is longer in history, in that it takes place over several years, but there are time jumps. Not major ones, but from a couple of months to a year. If I were to write everything that happened during the five years this novel spans, it would be epic, and truthfully, extremely boring. So that’s why only the interesting stuff is put into the book. The other scenes, the ones that doesn’t work, will probably end up as free shorts once the novel has been published.

I’m excited about it. As MTW is at 44K, all of which I’ve written in November, this means I can actually win NaNoWriMo properly, even if I’ve already reached 84K this month. I might just win NaNoWriMo by writing 50K on a new novel, on More Than Words. This is nuts, because all other years I haven’t managed the 50K margin, and now I’m going to a 100K for the month. Let’s see if I can pull this off!

On reading …

I haven’t read much this week. I finished reading Where Nerves End, by L.A. Witt and I liked it. I didn’t love it, but it was okay. Then I moved on to actually finishing Aria by Shira Anthony, which I’ve had on my to-finish shelf since April or something. There’s nothing wrong with Aria, it’s a good book, I just lost interest in reading and writing around that time, and I haven’t gotten around to finishing it since I came back to everything. It was good though. I also started in on Home Again by Cardeno C. This is a new author for me, and though I’ve only finished the first chapter, I’m liking it so far.
